Review

Gone is a great thriller series that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. It’s got a really strong cast and plenty of tension as the mystery slowly unfolds.

David Morrissey delivers a performance that feels different from some of his previous roles. He plays Michael Polly, a respected headmaster whose life begins to unravel when his wife disappears. Calm and controlled on the surface, Michael quickly becomes the prime suspect, creating a tense psychological battle with the police.

I haven’t really seen Morrissey play a character quite like this before. Usually I associate him with lighter roles such as in Daddy Issues. I’ve been a fan of his since the first time I watched The Water Horse.

Eve Myles is excellent as Detective Sergeant Annie Cassidy, the determined investigator leading the case. Annie is sharp, persistent, and clearly suspects that Michael Polly is hiding something. Much of the show’s tension comes from the psychological “cat-and-mouse” dynamic between Cassidy and Polly as she digs deeper into the disappearance.

I also really enjoyed seeing Rupert Evans in the series. He plays Rory Bowman, a character connected to the wider mystery surrounding the disappearance and the secrets within the community. Evans brings a steady presence to the role and adds another interesting layer to the story. He previously played one of my favourite characters in Hellboy.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Gone is a gripping thriller with strong performances and an engaging mystery that keeps you guessing. The writing keeps the tension high throughout the series, and the cast does a great job bringing the characters and their secrets to life.

I am not sure if I had heard of Gone previously, but based on what I have read here, it looks like I might enjoy it. I absolutely love psychological thriller. By the way, 9/10, is that your own rating or is is based on ratings on platforms like IMDb.

We get a lot of series like these over in the UK, and they are always great to watch and can keep you wanting more. This is one I will be watching for sure. I love psychological thrillers and this one seems right up my street.
