Dobby is returning to the Wizarding World, with Lenny Rush set to take on the role of the beloved house-elf in HBO’s Harry Potter series.
The magic of Hogwarts is getting a familiar addition.
Lenny Rush has been cast as Dobby in the upcoming HBO television adaptation of Harry Potter, bringing one of the franchise’s most beloved characters back to the screen.
Rush is a BAFTA-winning young British actor known for roles including Am I Being Unreasonable?, Dodger, Enola Holmes 2 and Doctor Who. He will portray Dobby as the series reaches the events of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Dobby is back
Dobby is introduced in The Chamber of Secrets as a mysterious house-elf who desperately tries to stop Harry Potter from returning to Hogwarts.
His attempts to protect Harry often create more problems than they solve, but beneath Dobby’s unusual behaviour is a genuine concern for Harry’s safety.
The character quickly becomes an important part of Harry’s journey, developing from an apparent obstacle into one of his most loyal friends.
Dobby previously became a fan favourite in the Harry Potter film series, where the character was created using visual effects and voiced by Toby Jones.
The HBO series will give the character another opportunity to be brought to life for a new generation of Harry Potter fans.
HBO’s new Wizarding World
The HBO adaptation is being developed as a television retelling of J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books, allowing each story to unfold over a longer format than the original film adaptations.
The first season will adapt Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026.
Season two will move the story into The Chamber of Secrets, where Harry, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts for another year — only to discover that something sinister has been unleashed inside the castle.
And now fans know that Dobby will be there waiting for them.
A new Dobby for a new generation
Dobby may be small, but his place in Harry Potter history is anything but.
Lenny Rush now has the opportunity to put his own stamp on the character while introducing Dobby to viewers who may be experiencing the Wizarding World for the first time.
For longtime fans, meanwhile, his arrival will be one of the most anticipated moments of the HBO series.
Dobby is back. And this time, he’s heading to HBO.
I think he actually fits the role quite well, but i want to be sure of something, is he going to simply be a voice actor for dobby, while they use CGI? Though i highly doubt this since the article did not mention anything about him being just a voice actor, and i doubt they have the funds to constantly use CGI, anyways i believe he will do just fine in this role.
As long as it’s a TV SHOW of Harry Potter, there’s no way CGI wouldn’t be used. So, they will work with CGI and good costume in order to have a good display of Dobby in the upcoming series.
Personally, I think he’s definitely going to play Dobby very well. He got the swag and aura to ace the role. I think he’s going to be one of my favourite characters to be on the lookout for.
I am very happy to see they have found someone who fits the role really well. I have seen him act in a few things, and he has the kind of personality that you would find in Dobby.
Should be interesting to see how well he plays Dobby in the Harry Potter series.
Dobby is definitely one of the most beloved characters. He is very loyal and brave. So, I think the casting is more important because fans have expectations. So, Lenny Rush has the talent and he can deliver.
