Zelda Williams is once again speaking out against AI-generated videos featuring her late father, Robin Williams.
The *Lisa Frankenstein* director recently called out a fake video circulating online that appeared to show Robin discussing conspiracy theories. Zelda said the footage was clearly AI-generated and criticised those responsible for putting words into her father’s mouth.
Her message was simple: Robin Williams is gone, but that doesn't make him anyone’s digital puppet.
Zelda has previously asked fans to stop sending her AI recreations of her father, and last month she and her brothers revived Robin’s official Instagram account to help preserve authentic photos, videos and memories of him.
For Zelda, keeping her father’s real legacy alive means drawing a line between genuine memories and AI-generated imitations.
As much as AI can be used for good, I feel like many people are using it more for bad than for good at the moment, and I fear things will only get worse unless something is done about it.
Something like this, creating AI videos of Robin Williams and putting words in his mouth that he never spoke, must not only be horrible for his family to see, but can also cause a lot of issues down the line as well.
A lot more needs to be done to regulate AI before it really gets out of hand.
Zelda Williams has the right to speak out. It’s uncalled for using AI to recreate her late father without permission. That’s very disrespectful for me. People need to understand that just because technology can do something doesn’t give you the right to do it. So, they need to respect the dead and their families.
This is one of the disadvantages of AI today. A lot of people are using this to create and spread misinformation. I think there needs to be some sort of accountability when it comes to how users make use of AI
